Any Colour as Long as It’s Red
From privilege to left wing politics
Any Colour as Long as It’s Red
Derique Montaut looks back on his life from his childhood in India — moving to England — and eventually to Swindon where he became well known as a trade union leader and a leading figure in local politics. Derique is widely respected as a legendary trade union leader, from the wildcat era of mass meetings in car parks and robust picketing. He brought that practical skill and experience to the Labour Party, and became a well regarded leader of the Labour group in Swindon.
His wise reflections about the last 50 years of the workers movement are invaluable; but this book also offers so much more. It is a fascinating personal history that takes us from the relative privilege of a childhood in the British Raj to the rough and tumble of factory life in Swindon. I highly recommend this book.
